Roundstone Summerfest News

This years Roundstone Summerfest is once again holding a Culchie Competition with the winner going forward to represent us at the All-Ireland Culchie Festival!! For those of you who aren’t sure what a Culchie is, well, basically, have a look at the photos and you’ll have an idea! The following are the entry requirements:

It is with great pride that the Roundstone Summerfest Committee recently donated the proceeds of last years fundraising activities to the Clifden Branch of the RNLI. Clifden is our local RNLI station, and covers a wide area along the west coast of Galway, in conjunction with the Aran Islands Lifeboat. We are thrilled to be involved with such a worthy cause and look forward to raising more vital funds again this year.

Yes folks, that’s right, the time is almost here. Summerfest 2008 kicks off this Thursday 14th Augsut. Fun and games for young and old alike, with absolutely loads of quality music to keep everyone happy!

Hes been described as A God by Hot Press Magazine, and his new album Running Dog as exquisite (Classic Rock), strong, surprising and intelligently written, one of the best this year (Americana-UK) and worth a hundred bloodless acoustic guitar-wielding crooners (Drowned In Sound).

Nick Kelly, award-winning singer and songwriter, is known both for his former life as frontman with acclaimed Irish band The Fat Lady Sings and as a defiantly independent solo artist. His second solo album, Running Dog is released on his own Self Possessed record label, and was nominated as one of the Irish albums of the year at the inaugural Choice Music Prize music critics awards.

Nick will be appearing live at Eldons Hotel on Friday 15th August at 11pm

At a recent visit to Inishmor, the Roundstone Summerfest committee made a presentation of €4,000 to the Aran Islands Lifeboat. These funds were directly raised during this years Summerfest from various events that took place during the festival from t-shirt sales, to bucket collections, to unique individual items such as the Summerfest Cow Plop! This is the 6th year that Roundstone Summerfest has supported the local Lifeboat organisations, and we are very proud to be associated with such a worthwhile cause. Further donations will also be handed over in the coming weeks to the Clifden RNLI and the Irish Water Safety Council. Roundstone Summerfest would like to thank all our volunteers and supporters without whom none of this would be possible, and we look forward to continuing our efforts in 2008.

 

Hi everyone, for those of you going through your diaries and making your plans for next year…! The dates for Roundstone Summerfest are 14th - 17th August 2008. No excuses now!! Looking forward to more of the same great music, craic, fun and games for young and old alike; see you then!

We’re almost there. Kick-off of this years Summerfest is only days away!! Fun and games for all the family from the very young to the very young-at-heart.

Some of the highlights include: Absolutely loads of Music Sessions over the four days of the festival, The Infamous Atlantic Hole-In-One Golf Competition; Beat-On-The-Street on the evening of Friday the 17th whereby the Village Street is completely closed off to traffic and the Gig-Rig is rolled out for a massive concert; The Connemara Culchie Competition; The Unique Roundstone Cow Plop!; Air-Sea Rescue Demonstration between the Irish Coastguard Helicopter and the RNLI Lifeboat Service; Summerfest Comedy Store on Sunday 19th… and so much more!!!!
